Why Oil Massage Shops Were Closed Today – And a Quick Update
This afternoon I received a bunch of frantic text messages, emails and comments on this blog asking why all of the massage shops in Phrom Phrong red light district were closed. I have to admit, this news piqued my curiosity too.
However, I’m in Phuket now to give my testicles some well deserved rest. So I’m only having sex with a short time girlfriend for the duration of my stay here.
But a quick phone call to my trusty insider friend revealed that the police are doing a “quality of life” check in the neighborhood.
And that most of the shops will back in business by 6pm or 7pm. Without going into too much detail don’t let this alarm you. This happened once last year too.
When I get back to Bangkok there are a few more visits to a couple of massage shops I’m writing reviews on before posting here.

What happens when police “raid” a shop and you’re in the middle of your deed? Do you get jail time, pay off the cops…?

Hi Greg, I answered that here https://bangkokredeye.com/21-questions-bangkoks-nightlife-answered/ on question #15. But it’s always worth talking about. So what happened during this day was that there was no actual police raid. However, there was a tip off that there was a “quality of life” check in the neighborhood. Granted it’s a vague term it does not mean police are targeting massage shops specifically. So all the shops took at as a day to just lay low.
Now, a major reason why the police would really raid a massage shop is if it is suspected of having under-aged sex workers. And illegal sex workers from neighboring countries employed. As long as ever prostitute working inside is of age and Thai, it’s all thumbs up.
Again, I repeat no shop massage shop was raided.
I know it sounds weird, but it’s not like these massage shops are operating in total secrecy. Everyone and especially the cops know of these places and under police protection also. But, I guess once in the while the higher ups have to do a shake up, just to make it look like they’re doing their jobs on the books.
That said, with so much rampant prostitution in Bangkok, no one has ever been charged paying for sex.

How’s it going Sam? In the beginning I used services of escort girls. Now I prefer to go out on my own. Girls working escort hang out in bars too. But if you feel like using escort services by all means do so. Cheers!
